Overview
Pietra dura is the art of inlaying polished precious and semi-precious stones into marble to create a 'painting in stone'. Thomas Greenaway, trained in the Florentine tradition, is one of very few UK craftsmen working in it. The original WordPress website presented his commissions and the craft behind them. The studio's current website has since been rebuilt on another platform by a different developer.

How I approach a WordPress build
The same steps I follow on every project like this one.
- 01Content model first
Map the pages, listings and reusable blocks the business publishes, then decide what is a page, a custom post type or a field.
- 02Theme built to the design
Templates are built from the approved design, responsive and mobile-first, with clean markup instead of shortcode soup.
- 03Editor-friendly admin
Editors get clear fields and blocks, so they can update content, galleries and listings without touching code.
- 04Launch checklist
Speed, SEO basics, forms, SSL, backups and redirects are checked on staging before the site goes live.
Technology
What each part of the stack does on this project.
- WordPressCMS the client team updates themselves
